The Yoga Center Staff

Teachers in the Iyengar tradition often spend years of study with senior teachers and undergo a rigorous national certification process. their attention to detail and focus on alignment and action give the classes a refined richness. Teachers at The Yoga Center follow the guidelines and teachings of B.K.S. Iyengar in all our classes. We are committed to assisting you in your ongoing practice and study of yoga as it relates to your life experience.

Phyllis Rollins is Charlotte's only Iyengar yoga teacher.  She began her study of Iyengar yoga in 1988 with Light on Yoga.  Since then, she has studied with many of the senior teachers in the U.S. and has traveled twice to India to study with B.K.S. Iyengar, his daughter Geeta, and his son Prashant. In 1993 Phyllis opened Charlotte's first studio, The Yoga Center, and in 1995 she earned her certification.  She continues her study of the junior intermediate certification syllabus. Most recently she attended the 2007 teachers convention with Geeta Iyengar in Las Vegas.

Tammy Seigel was first introduced to Iyengar yoga in 1994.   As her practice of yoga grew, she found strength and balance in her life; learning to know and trust her body.  Tammy has been teaching yoga to adults, teens and children since 2001.  She has attended several workshops and teacher trainings with senior level Iyengar teachers.  Through her teaching, Tammy guides students to listen to their bodies and understand the wisdom yoga offers.

Yvonne Brown is an ERYT 500. She is also registered with IAYT as a Yoga Therapist.  She has practiced yoga since 1997 and has been teaching since 2004. Yvonne is finishing a Master's Degree in nutrition and natural health through the Clayton College of Natural Health and is particularly interested in the healing aspects of yoga.

Maria Nagem was introduced to yoga in the 1970's by a junior high school social studies teacher who had visited India. She fell in love with yoga immediately and practiced on her own as a teen with the help of Richard Hittleman's Pocket Yoga Guide. Over the years, in between athletic pursuits, becoming a parent, and navigating the corporate world, she continued to practice yoga, finding that the mental benefits were just as significant as the physical. Maria is an RYT 200, studies regularly with senior Iyengar teachers, and is currently working toward an Introductory Level Iyengar certification.
